Codelco’s journey to implement and consolidate a Corporate Metallurgical Balance System
Corporación Nacional del Cobre (CODELCO) is a Chilean state-owned company and currently the largest copper producer in the world. Codelco has eight operating Divisions: Chuquicamata, Radomiro Tomic, Ministro Hales, Gabriela Mistral, El Salvador, El Teniente, Andina and Ventanas.
In 2003, the Chuquicamata Division decided to implement Sigmafine for the development of its metallurgical balance. Over the next 11 years, the system was successfully implemented in the rest of the operating Divisions. In recent years, several updates and modifications have been performed to consolidate and improve the system architecture, platforms, models, and procedures.
This presentation showcases Codelco's journey in adopting Sigmafine as its corporate metallurgical balance system, including the difficulties faced, the benefits obtained, the actual state of the overall implementation, and the challenges anticipated in the years to come.
About Codelco
Corporación Nacional del Cobre (CODELCO) is a Chilean state-owned company and currently the largest copper producer in the world.
Codelco’s core business is the exploration, development, and exploitation of copper mineral resources, the processing and refining of copper, and its subsequent sale. The company was created in 1976 as a result of the 1971 nationalization of Chilean copper mining. Codelco was established as a state enterprise that grouped the deposit sites into a single mining, industrial, and commercial corporation.
